Career Services

The department of Career Services provides comprehensive career planning, job search, and employment services to the college community.

Our priority is to prepare students and alumni to achieve their career goals through the provision of direct, supportive services and through partnerships with employers to assist them in meeting their recruiting needs for permanent, contract, or summer.

The Career Services department is here to help you learn about the relationship between what you do while you study at Concordia College of Canada and life after graduation. Students develop the competencies required for career mobility, to make informed decisions about career goals, to find career opportunities related to your personal and professional objectives, to secure employment, and to make a difference in the world.

Career development is a lifelong process that can include: self-assessment, competency development, networking, informational interviewing, internships, work experience, study abroad, job search skills, graduate school, and planning for productive, rewarding lives. Above all else, it is a generative process, which provides a foundation for achieving goals throughout life.

We understand how challenging the current situation can feel, but keep in mind that you are not the first or only group of students to face these employment challenges, nor will this be the last time in your life when you may face these challenges.

Career Planning

"Career planning" is the term we give to the steps we take to understand ourselves better in relation to who we are, the work we perform, and the broader communities in which we live. Having some clarity about our talents, our interests, our goals, and the world of work in which we will exercise these things, is an integral part of becoming a full member of society. What better time to engage in career planning than while you are at college!

Although career planning and development doesn't always occur in a strictly linear fashion, and involves a number of different tasks that you will engage in at various times, we have simplified the model to correspond with your time spent at college. Knowing that you have to coordinate your career development with academic and social activities, our plan involves the gradual career focusing over the course of your program. By the time you are ready to graduate, you will have prepared yourself to enter the workforce.

Resume Writing

The primary objective of creating a resume is to win an interview. A great resume - one that is concise, powerful, persuasive and well written - does not only tell the employer what you have done, but also convinces the employer that you have what it takes to be successful in the position. Your resume should stimulate enough interest so that it inspires the employer to pick up the phone and set up an interview with you.

While your resume is a vital step in the job search process, it is important to keep in mind that it is only one part of a package. Self-knowledge, interview preparation, networking and follow-up are also essential to your job search success. Before you start building your resume, be sure that you have done a lot of self exploration. Know who you are, what you want and what you have to offer. We offer free Resume writing workshops as part of your program to help you achieve your professional objective.
